Things of 2011

There is not a lot of stuff left over from 2011, as the Very Old Blog started only in the end of that year. Should I find stuff elsewhere I will amend this, but as far as I remember I only joined facebook in 2012? And before that and the Very Old Blog, I at the very least do not remember a place to have written things down.

I have written a short story, back then.

I have read a bunch of books over christmas:

  • finished The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Recommended.
  • finished Getting Things Done by David Allen. Time-managment book, which I’ll probably try to apply.1
  • got and finished Propaganda by Edward Bernays. Was disappointed. Expected something more practical, got basically a well-written propaganda for, well, propaganda.
  • started and finished The Art of Fiction by Ayn Rand. Very Ayn-Randy, if one might say so, but has some pieces of advice which might be useful.2
  • got and started Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman. I’m about halfway through. Hard to chew, but definitely recommended so far.
  • didn’t even start Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, my planned reading for the holiday…3

How the fuck did I read so much back then? The answer is probably “I did neither own a smart phone nor a laptop”. Maybe I should go back to that…

And lastly, I have been at a men-with-electric-guitars-drinking-on-stage concert, that I still remember fondly.

  1. He did not, at least not in the sense of the book and most definitely not in 2012. ↩︎
  2. Based on “what is the fuzz about” I read a few of Rand’s works back then, and I am still glad I never caught that particular strain of brainrot. ↩︎
  3. This one would turn out to be the one where she utterly lost me xD ↩︎
