In which we finish the battle, fold a folding bridge and spend all the things.

We open with Rosie and another explosive barrel, severely damaging the active tank.
The blast radius of the other canister proved too small to be of any use.
The Edelweiss peeks around the corner to put an AT-shell into what’s left of the tank. Due to extreme stupidity, however, I used the machine gun.
It didn’t do anything, in case you were wondering.
As we’re currently one man short, we order reinforcements at the foremost camp. Ms. O’Hara already knows the area, but she got shot here once already. By a tank. With its main cannon. We’ll call in Marina, so out snipers can share the fun.
Coby hasn’t seen enough action yet, so he crosses the street and takes down both the sniper and the lancer on the rooftop. Largo takes a shot around the corner and punches a hole in yet another tank, followed by Elysee.
Please note how Largo threw himself on the ground there.

They figured it out. Damn. The imperial radio operator thought long and hard about his contact with alpha camp and came to the conclusion that he didn’t recognize the voice. His superior is not happy about this.
The one thing done by the empire this turn is requesting reinforcements, so things might get interesting in the future.

Cathrine is all patched up and back in business.
The Edelweiss takes the southern tank out, Largo punches another hole in the northern one. Elysee tries the same, misses, moves forward a bit and succeeds. One imperial tank left on the field.
Action time for Marina: She moves forward and takes an imperial scout out. “I was useful”-animations right on the battlefield, outside of cover, just feel weird.
Rosie moves forward, clears the last parked imperial tank with the last Ragnite-barrel, and kills the shocktrooper in front of her. Coby follows up, and that’s turn five for us.

A shitload of imperial reinforcements arrive, the soldiers spread out. Their last tank moves out of cover, takes a shot at the Edelweiss and presents his side, which makes things a whole lot easier for us.

A well placed mortar shell takes care of the first group of imperial infantry.
Elysse sneaks behind the remaining imperial tank, gently tapping a lancaar-projectile against the radiator, with impressive results.
Rosie once again takes point and tries to the remaining shocktrooper with a grenade. Unfortunately, the thing comes down in front of the sandbags. She does a follow-up with her machine gun, but doesn’t deal enough damage to get him down. Same goes for the remaining lancer.
However, both are now easy one-hit-kills for Marina.
Both remaining scouts try to take out Rosie. Both fail. Adding insult to injury, the Imperial in the camp suffers from a bad case of counterfire.
There’s not much left to do: kill the remaining scout and take the camp.
We’re now in control of the drawbridge controls. Pull that lever, would you kindly?

So, Welkin’s plan worked. Everybody: be impressed. Largo and Rosie are still shocked that the whole driving-a-tank-through-a-river-thing worked.
Yeah, yeah… “but I still don’t have to like and dark-hairs”. Which was never part of the deal, but you will tolerate them, Rosie…
The sound of a camera turns some heads, and look who’s here: Ms. Ellet somehow managed again to walk straight up to Welkin. Why don’t we have any guards around here?
Irene compliments Welkin and asks about impressions on things to come. Welkin gets philosophical, with mixed results:
Listening to the lines in game feels way more pathetic than just reading them. I stood on the brink of a facepalm when this line came up. “Let’s use a bridge metaphor, right here”.
The chapter ends with Alicia, again releasing some Lion’s Paw seeds.
Between chapters, we spend a load of XP and big pile of money on the training field and at the R&D-department.
Some level-ups, Accuracy Boost II for the rifles and sniper rifles, and uniform and armour upgrades, further improving the bulletproofness of our troops.
We also pay a visit to Castlefront Street, where Ms. Ellet proudly presents two new articles in the Writing on the Wall:
The first tells the story of the Gallian Victory at the Great Vasel Bridge by driving a tank through the river and attacking the imperial rear, securing not only a vital trade route but also freeing the capital from the need to seal its walls.
The other deals with the retreat of the Gallian forces in the north after the Empire took the city of Fouzen, a major industrial centre. The imperial takeover of the city with its ragnite, steel and oil refineries dealt a great blow to Gallia’s production capabilities. As of now, there are no official plans to take back the city.
There’s no new report to unlock, but a new skirmish level is available: Vasel Riverside, the map from chapter three. I played it for fun and profit, and that’s it for today.
