A Thing I’ve Watched 04/2026: KPop Demon Hunters

A well animated movie with almost disturbingly catchy songs, and despite some moments of “wait what” a pretty decent story about, well, a group of demon hunters who in this day and age work their magic as k-pop band needing to face their opponents on their own turf.
Unless the virability of Golden completely put you off of this one forever, consider giving it a go. It’s enjoyable cinema.
This is one the hype and general enjoyment of which surprises me more than even Everything Everywhere All At Once. Our friend showed it to us and we thought, ah another silly thing where he likes it for very specific thematic reasons to do with the song lyrics or some other such that speaks to him, in this silly and frantic film for very young children. But then it turned out the whole world loved it! I was particularly surprised when I found out who made it, I’d assumed it was a small indie thing, the texture quality was very shaky in places, it seemed to go between very lush detailed parts (their outfits) to almost blurred low quality scenes from an older game cutscene (I think when the main character was walking with the main male character) and they were having their heart to heart.
