A Thing I (re-)Watched 02/25: Arcane, Season 01

This thing holds up as perfectly on the second run as on the first, and oh boi did I forget how constantly hard-hitting this was.
Hopefully I’ll now manage to ge relatively quickly into S02, finally.

A “reconstruction of the filmed version of a puppet play that was never performed” by the c-atre collective, this open-source play (link below) follows a group of coffee-bots unhappy with their working conditions making their way to the Boss Planet to update the system. It is slightly absurd and utterly delightful, and contains some very good musical numbers.

A (translated) collection of science-fiction short stories, none of which is actively bad, but also none of which really connected with me. I also found them pretty uncomfortable at times.
Nonetheless, if you’re looking for 70s scifi written by a non-american, non-male writer, consider taking a look.

A very beautiful animation piece about re-uniting a divided village, finding a meaning in one’s life, found family, and the importance of a working postal service.
Very heartwarming.
Do recommend.
This sure was A Movie.
A Christmas Movie, even.
A movie in which Santa gets kidnapped for nefarious purposes, and The Rock and Chris Evans go looking for him, and that tells you all you need to know.
It was not terrible, it was entertaining, it was alright.

A deep time sci-fi novel about accidental uplifting not-quite the target species, the search for a new home, and the inevitable conflict between those two.
It was a Wild Ride.
Comment by FutureSjut: I need to stop calling everything a “wild ride”.

A very nice graphic novel about a group of friends in a Definitely Totally Normal Summer Camp Where Nothing Weird Is Going On At All.

This has been enjoyable, but I have the same worry on this new one as on last year’s season: this will not age as well as the older seasons did, because it is referencing mostly current events that I do not necessarily see entering the public consciousness.

This stand-alone novel once again takes the reader into a Very Weird Wales, this time one with very, very harsh winters and a humanity that actually does the sensible thing and hibernates.
Obviously with some exceptions, otherwise this winter story would be rather dull.
I liked it, but I liked the other books I’ve read by him better, and while I would not call the ending disappointing I somehow would liked some.. more?

Scavengers Reign takes place on Vesta, a strange planet somewhere along the original travel route of the interstellar cargo ship Demeter 227, where it stranded due to… reasons. Several members of the crew made it into escape pods and are now stranded on Vesta, dealing with survival and strange local life forms.
This is, in my opinion, a very good series, and with it’s limited length easily watchable. The design of the life on Vesta is great, and the whole thing feels like a fever dream during most of it. In the best possible way.
